I would quite like it if you omitted chalk from the proximity to the stones, too.

However I think this is a case of ignorance rather than maliciousness and if photographs of unmarked stones and artistic impressions etc had been the introduction, then I would also be one of the first to welcome you

RN

Indeed i hope this is a case of ignorance, if you are only copying things from the older books when chalking was the done thing, and you made an error of judgement, then that is fair enough. so lets hope it is an error and not just someone trying to be smart?...

I mean there is no reason to chalk RA now, no need to number the panels, no need to sit measuring sticks next to them either. Most of us have all the books in our collections that describe and catalogue most of the rock art in the uk, so to repeat the process of chalking, measuring etc, is not needed, so there is not alot of reason to do it.

Lets hope you stick to taking good photographs of the RA instead.

I was hoping to steer around words like 'ignorance'.

The term 'differing opinions' is something we can all agree on, and from that perhaps some sort of consensus might arise at a later date. It's not like anyone involved in this discussion is a raging lunatic or anything (Fourwinds hasn't contributed after all).
