Ey up Dave!
< The last time I was at the Swastika stone (end of May) I noticed it was littered with those round foil things from 'tea-light' candles. >
New-Agers for y'. They're at it everywhere & seem to try justifying it with some 'angelic wisdom' or 'healing energy' bollox. I went into West Kennet once & as I walked in saw tons of candle-wax all over the stones - so I started my usual rant about idiots desecrating such places, only to find one such character at the end of the chamber, sat by several such little candles. He looked most worried & pissed-off sharpish.
< And it looked like someone had encircled the image with a white substance. It appeared to be gradually fading... >
It was white paint. Seems like some tosser thought to encircle the Swastika would be a good idea - I honestly think they thought they were doing some good. Once more I'll blame the New Agers here. They honestly have this idealistic view of healing energies which, after one visit to a site, they all of a sudden know everything about; so they paint, plant crystals, light candles, sprinkle essential oils - all to 'cleanse' the place of bad vibes. Thing is, they really believe it as well. Even worse, these New Agers are almost entirely middle-class people who also constitute a great majority of tourists to such places and, as such, may eventually end up having a say about the spiritual nature of our old places. If y' think it can't happen.........
