Yeah, the chalk is a problem - there are all kinds of symbols/patterns that I find attractive or interesting, but it just is not appropriate or acceptable to draw them all over our commonly owned heritage.

By the way - are there any guidlines for removing chalk graffitti (I know this may have been covered here before, apoplogies if that is the case).

i dont think attractive is the point, but hey as i have already conceded graffiti is graffiti wether its a depiction of avalokiteshvara or a cross!

Afaik, soapy water is the best. However I've never had much more than a small bottle of water with me at a site I've found graffiti-ed so I don't really know. For the record its hard to get off without any water, ime.
