I REALLY don't think any of us should be doing anything to remove it at all!!!!

Just report it - even if they do nothing, at least 1) you wouldn't be risking inadvertently doing damage/making it worse and 2) getting blamed for owt!!!!

Wise action in no action Moth - but people do all sorts of things when they're upset. My advice is standard - do nothing (except call in the experts).

As well as the sensible action that is 'inaction' in such cases I would not only report it, but publicise it as much as possible. Definitely wouldn't spit and rub!

One thing with chalk is that it's very fine and deposits itself in the surface pores of the stone. Removing it often needs to be a damaging process. Charcoal ain't so bad because it disolves in water. I still wouldn't try to remove it though.
