Judging by his website. Wouldn't the best approach be the softly softly one? He seems to see himself on a journey to enlightenment, part of this is what he does at the stones. I'm not condoning any of his actions, carving things, painting onthe stones, burying crystals etc. But he obviously cares about the sites (albeit in a bit of a different way to most people reading this) and might be open to people's reasonably put comments. And less open to being swooped on by angry people and the Law. On the spectrum of sanity I think he's a bit further towards loopiness than most of us. That's not an excuse but something a weedy liberal might want to take into account.

There's a lovely newly found stone circle in Kirkhaugh. It's a diameter of maybe eighty metres and consists of a lot of what-we'd-call little stones slumped over and overgrown with grass. Cutting the turfs away from these stones, with a sharp knife, would uncover the circle for everybody to see it. The same amount of energy - but with a quite different result. But then it's in Northumberland ...

Absolutely - I'll leave my last word to quote Sam Fleming from the guest book who has indeed been at this a long time. She has written some very good articles on the subject, including why chalking stones is bad:

Guys, been dealing with people like this for years, as some of you know.

Threats of violence will not help. They'll make Mike feel persecuted, and that's going to make him more entrenched and more convinced that the world needs saving and he's doing the right thing.

He needs someone to explain to him what they problem is. Not using threats of violence, but the way you might explain about the birds and the bees to a youngster.

Seriously. I understand why you're angry, believe me I do. Taking that anger out on Mike, however, isn't going to achieve anything and might make things worse.
