As you say, the fence at the King Stone is no protection at all.... and yet that maybe demonstrates why it might have a claim to be part of the archaeology - it tells a story of how past officialdom regarded heritage protection as a matter of keeping Joe Public away from things, even symbolically.... (and still does!)
