What is it?

What small part of my brain that's currently fuctioning would be inclined to take the vulva theory.

What are the dimensions of the carving?

Are they approximately at a 1:1 ratio?

It looks very neat and artful for an archer's whetstone; but then again, I haven't messed about with a clothyard shaft to *really* know . . . .

Had a look in my small library of archaelogical/neolithic stuff, but couldn't find any references. Is there anything else about the site that might give some clues of Goddess worship - names of local places, etc?

It is about the size you see on your screen. No local names that I can see throw any light on it. Weird though isn't it? It is thought that a pagan building was on the hilltop which then became a small Saxon church before the present Norman foundations were laid. Little signs of erosion so I'm guessing that it is recent or has been under cover for a long time. Folklore says the Devil left the print when he tried to kick the church down - so that's no great help.

Love your photographs - they really are stunning.
