Also a book by Julian Richards, Photographs of Stonehenge, which goes back to when the stone were being re-erected. King Arthur in his younger days, and poor stone wardens (1960ish) scrubbing off words (distemper), CND and Bath rag week were also painted on the stones...

Ahh... but the best rag week was the one organized in the early 60's by students at Swindon School of Art when they dug up the road in front of the college. The students, disguised as council workmen, were told that if the police showed up they weren't to worry as they wouldn't be 'real' policemen but just other rag week students. He he (was that the first time I was arrested or the second...?).
