'such as progressive mining of an unknown Roman site until all evidence it ever existed is gone!'
No, it's just general clutter, from two different places. It is a curious situation though. The detectorists break into two camps. There's the nighthawks, who won't tell you anything. They frequently are poor spellers. Then there's the ones who record everything and add to a big database ( http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/ukdfddata/index.php ), which is an excellent source for descriptions of common finds. I'm starting to think of the large Roman bronze coins as a good source of material for small scale casting projects. Earrings and bracelets, probably. I'd need to borrow my friend's bellows to melt bronze but silver will certainly melt without. There's some stuff called, broadly, Corinthian Bronze, which is fascinating. I've not found any of that yet!
