Hi Gof

The new transport theory is totally theoretical I'm afraid and personally I think it unlikely, however I have included it in the book because I believe it is possible and furthermore I think I could make it work.

That is not to say I believe that is how the sarsens may have been transported, only that it is possible and if proven and accepted would make stone-rowing redundent for the most part.

On our first visit to the Outer Hebrides, we took a guided tour with Margaret Curtis.

The tour started in her garden, where she has several stone- moving experiments rigged up. Some are familiar, and some not so.

I have to admit that one method in particular, consisting of various a-frames ropes and pulleys - although it plainly worked - seemed far too cumbersome and time-consuming to be considered efficient by modern standards.

That said, the mantra kept popping into my head: any means necessary.

If the method works, then it's perfectly feasible that it was at least considered by those who had to move the stones! :)

well I hope this time you start from the other end of the scale and show how to move a 60 ton sarsen up an escarpement.
Now that Would be be impressive!
