I used to have a pottery - decades ago - and used local materials for the glazes, as much as possible. Dolerite is used as an ingredient in stoneware glazes and it also looks just great when it's been melted ( http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/collection/database/?irn=158889 ).

Personaly..

I look forward to the day when the location of origin of the so called 'Bluestones' have been mapped... (Just hope it's in My lifetime)

Of cause it will only cover the known Stones. The missing Stones history will remain speculation..
