i liked jimit's neolithic story.
i realized that this idea is very hard to get your head around. and we may never know exactly what stonehenge was used as. but, one thing remains to be determined and that is if future soil tests tell us that grain was indeed worked at stonehenge...
if that turns out to be the case, then these discussions about whether early man would travel to stonehenge for religious reasons but not for agricultural ones will be seen in a new light.
here is the story as i see it taking place....
neolithic mom and pop are sitting by the fire talking.
mom says, " i can't wait to go to the big summer gathering and ceremonies at stonehenge."
pop replies, " me too, and since we finished phase III, we will be able to come home with a winter's supply of wheat. and, i can make lots of beer."
mom replies from under her heavy brows, " wow, this year the annual trip will serve two purposes. but i do not want you making too much beer. you remember last year how you fell off the carousel at the mill and started this arthritus problem.."
pop, " it was moving those damn big rocks that caused my bad back. beer makes it feel beter."
the end.
If you do not like my "granary at stonehenge theory" then you are going to hate my "brewery at stonehenge theory "(still in development).
love you all,
clyde
