Your Stonehenge photo taken on 15th December is wonderful - what a privilege to have been there at sunset. It is my theory that the pagan festivals of old would have been celebrated at certain times of the year on the nearest day/night of a clear sky to the actual date, so your picture is a true winter solstice.

I also have a theory that the sun always bursts blindingly bright on the 2nd February which is Imbolc and the first true day of the 'new life of the year' - but sometimes it is a day or two out.

Hi June,
that's me in the center of the circle, I was taking photos of the full moon rising over the heel stone.
I have been monitering the lunar standstill point inside Stonehenge since 2002.
(I managed to sneak Jimit in with my paying group in 2005 :)
This year the event was in late November.
