I thought that the consensus was that SH celebrated the Mid-winter sunset. This is 3.50ish and they close at 4 but they give you 20mins to leave so weather permitting you should get some pretty good pics.

I've just returned from Avebury and it's really, really cold. Wear every jumper you have, and then knit some more.

Having said that, the skies were clear. Should be a lovely sunrise if it stays that way!

Well, that may well be the case, however, the free open access to Stonehenge presently occurs four times a year for sunrise on the solstices and equinoxes. That's what the original negotiators for the open access asked for.

Presumably, EH would prefer there to be no free open access at all. At least, with the two equinoxes and the winter solstice, they can get it over and done with in the early morning before the paying public arrives.
