It's now 3 years since Gerald S Hawkins died.
Since his death I have been working with his American colleagues at Stonehenge checking his predicted alignments.
During research amongst Geralds archive we have unearthed a rare 1964 35mm film which has now been converted to an all region DVD.
The film shows Gerald explaining his theories inside Stonehenge and the successful filming of the summer solstice sunsrise, winter solstice sunset and a lunar eclipse in December 1964.
The film also has Prof Richard Atkinson (with his famous "These people were what I call howling barbarians, practicaly savages.." quote)
Also appearing on the film are a young Patrick Moore, Dr Glyn Daniels, Stuart Piggott and a very rare interview with Prof Alexander Thom talking about elipses.
With an all star cast including a handfull of dotty druids

This film explains Hawkins' theories in an easy to understand way without getting too complicated.
It was never broadcast in UK.
If anyone would like a copy please email me on [email protected] for more details,

Sounds interesting Pete, how long is the film?

Incidentally, the July-August 2006 issue of the British Archaeology magazine features a six page article on early photos of Stonehenge - the earliest of which were taken 100 years ago from the basket of a Royal Engineers' balloon tethered south-west of the site.

Perhaps mail a disk to Alan Yentob, at the BBC, and another to the Cumbrian Lad ? See if they make any firm suggestions (and then we could sample it from the TV). The more contemporary place to lodge it would be at somewhere like Pirate Bay, perhaps tagged with the collection 'freakyflicks' ?

Its brilliant Pete, classic archaeology and classic archaeologists with plums in their mouths, such a smoothy, Hawkins the American pitted against Atkinson the Brit... but did he really prove the stations of the sun and moon at the end? or do I have to go and read all those other theories??
