We are all entitled to our opinions and the more people that express them the better informed the debate will be. People who take fundamentally different views can, of course, send their views in quite separately. It will be some kind of miracle if we all agree every dot and tittle and the proposal as it stands should not be regarded as cut in stone. It is not the final version.

However, I am far from convinced that the long bore tunnel is the best option, but I am convinced that leaving the A303 as it is is the very worst option. Such fundamental differences could wreck our submission and that is why we have deferred the A303 until Phase1 is complete. Surely we can reach agreement with issues of access, visitors' centre, landscape etc without falling out over the wretched road.

"3 Southern Route. This is our preferred option if the ideal solution is not to be adopted. The new route should be outside of the southern extent of the National Trust land. Even so, the new road should be hidden by earth banking to hide its visual impact and to reduce noise. A better option would be to sink the road in a cutting."

Who brought the A303 into this? Not me, I was just commenting on the document.

'agreement has to be reached without falling out over the ....road.' Exactly !

That is why we can't step beyond the 344 junction, because when we do we immediately step onto a minefield of opinions that everyone is entitled to. Without a consensus we are just a few individuals entitled to our disparate opinions.

'Those with fundamentally different views can send their views in quite separately'

I shan't bother to send my views on my own, I shall kick-off another thread to see if we can find a consensus without the road and if not I will drop it. Those who want to stick with the road I wish you all the best, anyone that wants to follow George's lead I'll see you on another thread.

Best wishes,
