Precisely why we deferred the A303 issue to Phase 2. We started by saying sort out the landscape, visitor centre white elephant, shuttle-bus access etc.. FIRST ie in Phase 1. Do all that and THEN sort out the A303.

I thought that we had clearly stated that the bored tunnel was the best option (I compromised because I don't think so) We then said that if the government ruled out the tunnel, then the south re-routing would be the least worst. Why has the A303 assumed centre stage now?

Absolutely Peter. That was the initial proposition I put forward that started this off. It was dead right, new, and everyone jumped to say yes to it.

We have proposed to action it via the submission procedure which, as you say, forced us to talk A303 as well.

You ask - "Why has the A303 assumed centre stage now?" and the answer is that people on three forums are saying, great proposition about Achievable Stonehenge, but I think the A303 blah blah blah.

The public is telling us we have adopted the wrong format maybe?

VBB's posting about cutting the crap is such unalloyed good sense it would get universal support. Who would dare say it's wrong? Not us, not the public, not the Highways Agency, not the Planners, not EH. Perhaps we simply need to say that and nowt else - in a submission to the Highways Agency (and they can rule it incomplete or irrelevant if they want) and through every other official channel we can think of.

Why should a universally supported piece of obvious good sense be ignored by the govt. and establishment indefinitely?
