Hello there
After undertaking some research at my local library, the helpful assistant put me on a book Called UK Total solar eclipses by Sheridan Williams. This is an excellent book and lists a great deal of information, maps and notes about well......total solar eclipses in the UK past and future.
Looking at the info the last total solar eclipse which would have been sighted above Stonehenge occurred on 22 May 1724 and was witnesses by Willaim Stukeley at a place called Haradon Hill near Salisbury. There is an account of him witnessing this event in which he states " it was beyond all that he had ever seen or could picture"...There was about 3 and a half minutes of totality.
Amazingly there was actually another total solar eclipse nine years earlier which would also have been visible at the stones this is the celebrated 3 May 1715 eclipse which would have also the last total eclipse visible above London. Other eclipses at the Stones however would be extremely rare. According to what I can interprit from Sheridain's maps the previous eclipse to the eighteenth century ones occurred in 6th May 317, and the next one will occur on 5th May 2600. This is not counting partial or annular eclipses.
