Blindingly obvious to most, I guess, but the 1610 illustration of Stonehenge at http://faculty.arts.ubc.ca/sechard/antiquit.htm which BuckyE refers to can be accessed by left clicking on the empty box (with the red x at top right) and then right clicking on 'show picture'.

Worth a look as this might be the earliest illustration of Stonehenge that we have (don't forget to "click on the boxed Latin legend to open a new window with a detail of the English captions to the drawing." (especially "C. A place where mens bones are digged up." :-)

Sorry, that should be red x at top <i>left</i>.

For anyone interested <b>Camden's Britannia</b> of 1588 is available on CD for £17.75.

This is the, "Translation and edition of 1722 by Gibson, complete with all of the 1695 maps by Robert Morden (and) is the definitive early history and description of the whole of Britain... They give wonderful accounts of the places, their history and geography, lifestyle of the people at the time, etc...
