I have looked at the picture closely, it is certainly intriguing. It would be lovely if it was energy or fairies but I think, having studied the dimensions, that it's much simpler.

The first shot has captured the reflection of an object on the fence, or even a bottle in the field behind? Ishmael says it was taken with a digital camera. The pixel spread and colouring ties in with the natural light on the stones and faces on the figures.

I think the reason it hasn't shown in the 2nd shot is that the person by the tripod has stood up. His head is in the approximate line of vision that the light was in and may be obstructing the reflection into the camera. The orb is quite large because the memory chip is trying to configure the image but maybe doesn't have enough pixels to translate it properly.

Just a thought?

Just another point - the sun is very low in the sky, lighting is soft and yellow, even the orb. The camera is also fairly low, which is why I think the reflection is likely. Sorry, I keep coming back to it!

Whilst I think it most likely that the flash has reflected from something or other on the fence - which we can't see 'cos of the bloke's head - the other thought which crossed my mind (and this is a bit way out, but then, it is photography), is what of the possibility that a small flying insect may have been caught in the flash - too close too the lens to have been recorded, but close enough to bounce some light back? As it was a slow shutter speed with flash, this does leave a option for such an occurance. Possibly. Still think it's a metal tag reflecting.

BTW, were you using filters at all? Do you keep a skylight filter on your lens? If so, have you checked it for any signs of flaws or damage?
