Move Stonehenge ?

close

No sooner is it announced that the Stonehenge tunnel is a no go and the visitor centre fails to get planning perm - a letter in the SW local paper suggests moving the stones :

"The Egyptians moved Abul Simbel when they needed to create a dam. It still attracts many visitors, many of whom wonder at the fantastic achievement. I'm sure with a bit of thought and planning we could move these ancient stones and bring the A303 (which is a single carriageway at this point) into the 21st century."

The writer suggests moving the stones to Salisbury Plain, but I am sure we could come up with a better place -how about that nice little heritage park industrial estate they built down the road, or perhaps a coastal location so we could have boat tours ?

VBB :)

There was a similar letter/article in the Blackmoor Vale around April Fools Day!! You can't believe how many people fell for it!! There was even a discussion in the pub on how exactly to move the stones and a possible new location for them!!!

Be careful - a suitably crackpot idea for 2 jags Prescott to latch onto. Anything he wants done is steamrollered through. What he would do to Silbury defies the imagination! Probably make it into an internment camp to welcome more un-needed and unwanted foreigners! (No I'm not a BNP supporter, just Mr average Englishman)

Move it to Ladybridge and kill 2 birds with one stone

don't tell the government - this comes under their self-initiated remit ('think the unthinkable').

There aren't many places to move Stonehenge to, it'd have to be near a st*rbucks for a start...or a h*mebase...where it could be 'inspirational' to the bank holiday shelf assembler.
