I've seen that pile of stones and wondered.......

However, the Sites & Monuments Record locates the Whetstone stone circle at SO30379761, which would place it on the other side of the Whetstone cairn, which appears to have some stones dumped onto it. For that reason, I assumed that your pile of stones are not from the circle.

Burl says (in the big £40 circle book) that the antiquarian Hartshorne saw three stones standing in 1941, on 'low-lying wet ground'.
This is getting to be a bit of a mystery this. . when I found these stones I was convinced, now I'm not sure. . but I wonder where Burl gets his 305796 grid reference from?
