We had a nice walk up Mortlich Hill today (fort on summit, I don't know if it's prehistory). This hill is just north of Aboyne Loch, Aberdeenshire. On the way back we came across some stones (NJ 53569 00199) which to my untrained eyes looked a bit like a long cairn (not uncommon round this part of Aberdeenshire). The stones where on the top of a rise looking down onto the Loch. Maybe 25 feet long and 8 feet wide. Nothing is marked on OS maps, Canmore or Aberdeenshire council websites. Probably just field clearance. It's quite near a path so I guess if it was a cairn it would have been spotted a long time back. Anyway here's a link to some photos I've put on 500px. Any thoughts would be welcome, thanks.

Bit on the wee side for a long cairn - but thats not to say it hasnt been partially robbed for that bonny dry stane dyke in the background.

Unusual if the OS havent made reference to it or the RCHMS dont have a record of it.

You are a connoisseur of beautiful walks ..... fairly enjoy your posts T.
