Aberdeenshire

close

..is the place to be.

I've just come back from 3 weeks working in perthshire, and ended up spending most of the weekends in and around Aberdeen. The place is just unreal, you are constantly tripping over stones and circles in more ways than one.
After Callanish this has to be THE place in Britain to go-buy Landranger 38 and mark off all the sites with a highlighter-the map will be GLOWING afterwards, which is how I felt when I came back.

I managed about 20 sites which I've now written up to TMA and I think that of them all Sheldon is the one, with Nine Stanes running close.

If you're wondering where to go next, wonder no longer!

I've found the place I intend to be living one day, thats for sure.

I think judging by the number of your recent posts your dedication rivals even Martin and his 'go one further' approach. You'll need a holiday now to relax!

It's an age old cry on this forum. Superb area of the country. As you say possibly the best in the UK. It definitely rivals County Cork.

Chris- your recent post have been great and v inspiring and enjoyable. I'm v jealous- have never been in the country around Aberdeen (even though most of my wife's family are from up that way). I'm currently trying to instill the idea that a family holiday to the NE would be a great idea for next year- this, however, would probably involve my wife n son sitting in the car whilst I clamber around sites- can't see it somehow!
Did you not visit any Perthshire sites then? I know the pull of the mighty recumbents of Aberdeenshire is pretty strong, but there are some crackers in Perthshire too. Guess yer time was limited- you'll just have to come back up ;)

... It really isn't on you know! It always happens. On my busiest day at work this millenium some git goes and posts a load of really interesting looking stuff on TMA !!! AAAaarrrgghhh!!!

I'll never get to read it now :-(

Botheration.

Over and out there somewhere!!

Indeed Moey and myself combined some essential stone circling up there with Copey's gig at the Lemon Tree u can't move for stone circles and things we did about 20 in 3 days and like fool I didn't note all of them down.
The place is fantastic and on the list to go back to sooner rather than later.
Incidently at the gig Julian said that in the TMA he had 59 stone circles in Aberdeenshire - by April he had visited 87 and had identified that there were 102 circles that were ESSENTIAL!!
Its a must do it!!! do it!!
