Chris, if you haven't already seen it you might want to check out Map Man on UK TV History this evening at 7:30 (deals with the first edition of the Ordnance Survey map).

I love maps too - the problem is that new and old boundaries don't always correspond, so the only way to know for sure is to look at parish boundaries and then check to see what county the parish was in. which of course don't appear on OS maps!
