Ta for this one Rhiannon,
http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/post/36756

I'm chuffed to see this idea hasn't disappeared entirely. I'm still not 100% convinced, but from a neurological perspective, it's an interesting theory.

I wish there was such a thing as archaeo-neurology, but there's not, nor will there ever be.
Ah well...

Mmm... one evening, a long time ago, my ancient mother-in-law suddenly sat bolt upright in her futon and uttered the one terrifying word Jishin (Earthquake).* Five seconds later the earthquake hit. Could be (an I'm inclined to think it probable) that because she was lying down on the floor and half asleep she was probably more sensitive to a subterranean disturbance than the rest of us who were still sitting around chatting.

But I also seem to remember reading somewhere that early, and very simple crop circles (not the fancy stuff you see on calendars and postcards now), were sometimes observed at geologically 'sensitive' points.

Just a thought - perhaps it all ties in somewhere.

* Interestingly, jishin in Japanese not only means earthquake, it also means 1) a magnetic needle and 2) the hour hand.

I thought you might like that, Hob. As for archaeo-neurology, I'm sure it's the future. Maybe.
And even if the position of those stones has nothing to do with neurology, it still might have to do with the shaking earth - weird enough in itself?

have you checked out Mr Cowan's site?

Aw, god - I didn't want to mention wells again!

My mate Mr Dragon Project has a theory about sacred sites being built on or near fault lines and springs/wells/sources of water...

I'll not go into it cos I can't remember a word of it! Pretty much tallies with my own theory though, that the springs/whatever - for whatever reason (for the water itself or electromagnetic thingies) - were an important factor to our ancestors...

Me tired. No making sense. Gone.
