Liking that! I know it's pure speculation and not likely to be in any way provable, but that has a nice feel to it. Although I suspect that the alignment of the row may suggest rather more careful planning than a quick reaction to an event.

Be interesting to know if there is any way of "dating" a sink hole? In so far as "geological time" or "prehistoric time" or "modern" at any rate.

That's fascinating, thanks Tiompan. I'll have a proper look at this later. Did you click through the "dating results" link? It give dates of a late BA, early IA for the samples (if I've read correctly). So firmly in TMA territory...
