Sarcasm aside, I think you could have a point Peter. It had never occurred to me how similar the names are.
Does Manx share more common ancestry with Welsh or Gaelic? I always thought Manx was more like Gaelic than Welsh. If the two names 'Mann' and Môn' derive from the same source, that source is very old!
Following the same 'wine' addled logic, an indication of the significance of the island during prehistory might be inferred by such an early root word.
This all sounds a lot like a book I once read.
