Foot and mouth, at a guess! I remember having to peer longingly over the wall at Castlerigg a couple of times...

yes it was due to foot and mouth. we thought it was all over by then but it wasn't although i was slightly cynical that they were closed around the time of Samhain....hmmm
still was a good do even if peering longingly over walls is all you can do at times...
