try to get to see sunkenkirk (swinside) really is worth the trek
you can park fairly near although we didnt and we walked down to it (about 1 1/2 miles ) from the top and its most enjoyable (despite rabid farm dogs).
lovely site, good surroundings, peaceful and worth it
near broughton in furness ( so mr.pixie is telling me)

bit drunk but theres afew sites on the way from castlerigg down to swinside that are worth taking in on the way there as well

And for all those that love Swinside you have to get across to Ireland and go to Ballynoe in county Down. It's almost identical and on the same line of latitude!

Confusingly it also has an English style long barrow in the centre ...
