Map for Urswick Standing Stone & St Michaels's Stirrup Standing Stone

This is great, thanks. Looking at the map, the Urswick Stone does seem to be in the vicinity described in the guide. I'll check it out

OK, finally got around to having a shufty at this and am now wondering whether it may indeed have been a standing stone?

A local woman we spoke to said it is believed to be medieval but it is very similar in shape and size to the nearby Middle Barrow stone and the field in which it once stood is within sight of Great Urswick burial chamber.

It is built into the base of a field wall opposite the school and although it is broken it isn't too difficult to imagine it upright. Not sure whether I should put it on here as a site though, as there is no real evidence that it is prehistoric (although I'd like to think it is!)

Hi V,

Did you manage to find both of the stones i marked on the map?
