Day in the Lakes

Yep, those two weeks are a haven for those of us who work in the Edicashun sector :-)

If you're travelling from Manchester there's a whole heap of stuff along the M6 corridor, but it might be worth taking a detour to visit Druid's Circle – a fairly short walk from parking.

A bit further west is the fantastic Sunkenkirk, as already mentioned, but it's a long walk

Just a bit further west again is Giant's Grave

and the rather nice Black Combe.

If you'd rather stay close to the M6 then Gamelands is as good a place to start as any

A short walk from parking but I'm not sure if there's a gate into the field or not – I seem to remember climbing over the wall.
Continuing north, Kemp Howe is work a quick look.

Further north there's Gunnerkeld of course before you get to Penrith but there's plenty of stuff on either side of the M6 depending on your interests and time available. Once at Penrith it's worth taking a detour south to Eamont Bridge to see King Arthurs Round Table

and Mayburgh Henge

You've already been to the Megs, Glassonby and Castlerigg but personally I wouldn't be able to resist dashing down the A66 to watch the sun-set at Castlerigg before heading home.
The eastern side of the Lakes isn't the most picturesque in term of landscape and that Lake District 'wow' factor, but there are some impressive sites to be visited.
Hmmm. . . I think I fancy a quick trip up there myself now!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions, and I am sorry if this has been asked before, Ishould have searched the forums a bit more thoroughly.

There are some great ideas there, and I shall try to plan things so I can watch the sunset at Castlerigg, which is a fabulous idea. I completely fell in love with it when I visited before (fortunately on a freezing cold day, so there were very few other people there, something I gather doesn't happen all that often!)

Yes, that was my first post. I have been spending hours on end look at all the sites here, but have never quite had the courage to post anything! Thank you all for being so friendly :-)

Best wishes to one and all,
BeakerUK

There is too much to see! I have decided on two trips rather than just one!

Having looked at the weather forecasts for this week it seemed that today was going to be the best day this week, so I headed off this morning and managed to see: Kemp Howe, Castlehow Scar, the circles on Iron Hill (was going to try for Oddendale but was so pathtically puffed out by the short walk to the Iron Hill cairns I decided to save my energy for later!) Mayburgh Henge (which I LOVED!) and King Arthur's Round Table, the Cop Stone and Moor Divock cairns (I had delusions of grandeur and tried to find the Cockpit, but my map reading skills are a little below par and suffice to say I will have to return another time, preferably with someone else so I don't get lost and end up wandering the moors for ever more!) Gamelands (though I couldn't get through the mud into the field, annoyingly) and finished the day back at Castlerigg, which is probably my favourite place on earth right now. I didn't manage sunset there, though, as it was about 5pm and I didn't think I'd manage to wait several hours for the sun to go down. Ah well, have to go back again!

Next week I am going back up to do the Druid's Circle, Giant's Grave and Black Combe, Swinside, and another look in at Blakeley Raise and Castlerigg (kind of fond of that place...!)

Once again, thank you everyone for your suggestions!
