Cumbria weekend?

I'm toying with the idea of a long weekend in Cumbria sometime soon. Not an area of the country I know at all.

Bearing in mind my requirement to use the car (which precludes long hill walks etc), where would be the best place to stay? Is Penrith a good town, or should I look at some of the surrounding villages for B&B?

I'm hoping to take in Long Meg and surrounding sites, so any recommendations (for sites or B&Bs) gratefully received.

Hi Ocifant,

Cumbria and what to see seems to come up on a fairly regular basis, if you do a search on the forum that should give you some idea as to what has been suggested before, and then take it from there :-)

I'm not sure about B&B's though - I could help you if you were looking for campsites. I'm hoping to be back over in the Lakes myself in 2-3 weeks time, if you've not been before you'll love it!
