I quite liked The Barge, the couple of times I went. Although I do seem to remember it getting quite a rough ride on this form in the past, due to its crop circle connections. Can't see the problem, meself! Was friendly enough, anyway. I'm not a big drinker nowadays, but I always think it's sad when a non-chain pub gets shut down. Just be grateful that Tesco haven't bought it! :D

The place has/had character, whether you were interested in CCs or not. It was also a nice place to sit outside by the canal, with dogs and kids in the summer (and a place to camp that wasn't too far from Avebury). A stone’s throw from Alton Priors (and the Anglo-Saxon church at Alton Barnes) capped it for many of us though.
