Heritage Action springs into 2009 with a 'gentle' attack on the folly of building houses within the Avebury World Heritage Site.

I saw this when I visited Avebury a couple of days ago. It didn't strike me as being much of an issue if I'm honest, there are buildings there already.

How many houses are they building there?

Five houses are being proposed.

The Art Deco garage had a certain charm about it and personally I think it should have been kept and turned into something both useful and relevant to the Avebury World Heritage Site. Now that it's gone there's an empty space which again, personally, I think should stay empty - the site is just too close to the north-east quadrant of the Henge for a housing project. In fact, if you look at the second pic on Heritage Action you'll see just how close the houses will be to the Henge - not to mention the fact that the houses will also be visible from the Henge's north-east bank.
