I haven't been to that part of Dartmoor so what do I know? But on the os map White Moor is right next to a bridleway, so as long as you stay on the path maybe nothing will happen to you. I refer you An American Werewolf in London for more instructions.

Yeah, but I read some fieldnotes somewhere that mentioned that the OS map may be slightly misleading. Not that I'm suggesting that it's all a government conspiracy to drown hippies or anything!

As for an AWIL..... remember that pub? Where all the locals stop talking when the Americans enter? I found a worse one! I was trying to find a rumoured festival up near Pendle Hill many years ago. After much driving around, we thought 'sod it', and headed for the next pub we saw. This was a little off the beaten track, and it should really have set off alarm bells that the place was called "The Swan With Two Heads" (complete with illustration in case of any ambiguity!). Got the whole instant silence treatment - tumbleweed blowing through the bar, wind whistling.... the whole damn lot! T'was an unsettling experience. We left sharpish!

Path / bridleway?

when were u last on Dartmoor Rhiannon? hehe. Paths on maps don't end to exist on the ground on Dartmoor! Not that I'm trying to frighten anyone.....
