I'm sure it is true , i.e. a shaft of sunlight shines through a natural cleft most obviously at ten past noon on the equinox .
It was probably true before H.S. set foot on the hill too .

But why not comply with the thread title? ;)

Of course, a natural cleft could still be utilised by deliberately placing a marker where it casts a shaft of light.

Yeah if it's true now it can be our sacred mountain today.

(don't anyone check what happens with the sun and the hole any other day of the year. It could spoil everything).
