Sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time....makes up for midsummer when you couldn't see your hand infront of yer face.
Off down to St Just in the morning...hoping for some big skies..

Is it me...whats all the fuss about these stones with hardly legible markings on them? Can't they have a site of thier own? We have loads of them down here in Cornwall..most of them date back at least 150 years to when the miners would bore out a little hole put some gunpowder in, then set it alight for fun...bit like we do fireworks. They are called merry making stones..there is a great one on the east side of Stowes Hill and you will also notice them on the fallen stone at Trethevy Quoit.

Thanks for the comments..will see what i can take over the weekend...Chun Quoit and Tregeseal main targets.

The stone you mention on the side of Stowe's Pound is called the Jubilee Stone. I was up there about 10 years ago with one of the archaeologists from Truro and he said it was put there by the miners to comemerate Victorias Diamond Jubilee. Apparently the gunpowder went off to the tune of God Save The Queen.
