Shan’t spoil the surprise but what surprises there are!!!!

This is English Heritage doing very good work - committed to sound research that takes us massively forward in knowledge and sharing it direct with the public. No politics, no suits, no self-aggrandisement; just archaeology. The concern is that this good work and the dig the team are moving on to may not be followed up – with budget cuts the archaeological division are in the firing line and further jobs cuts are threatened.

We need a campaign!

Stirrer and EH lickspittle! ;)

What do you suggest?

I can see calls for ring fencing of pure research excavations like these won't be heeded by the govt. as they'll say prioritising of the reduced resources has to be left to EH. As you say, they're the bits that bring most credit to EH but can they afford to keep them?

Dear VBB - I should just say that there is an on-going 'campaign' in respect of an earlier 'job cut' in the archaeological division. This job cut was, ultimately, related to events at a site (involving 'politics, suits and self-aggrandisement') that is possibly the same one which 'the team' might be moving on to.

Any help you feel able to provide with this would be much appreciated.
