I'll not be going. Beltane doesn't really mean anything to a terminal city boy such as I, so it'd probably be disingenuous. Or something...

But I did come here to ask advice about Thornborough and seeing this didn't want to add to the clutter with a new thread!

What I wanted to know was... what is the deal with public access to these three henges?? My bro and I were going to get up there this weekend from Parisii territory but I have read that there is no public access and that two of them are owned by those lovely Tarmac people.

Any advice?

I was there las year and there was no problem with access - they don't exactly make it easy, in the sense there aren't any signs or specific footpaths (but who needs that????) but we wandered around the 3 sites with no problems at all. We parked in the vilalge, near the pub and walked to them from there. You may have problems seeing much of the first henge at this time of year, as the trees and shrubs will be in leaf - much better to go in winter to get a real sense of this amazing place.

Have fun!

Thanks for that info! I shall go after all then.... I'm excited now :)
I've heard cos of erosion and such that the only place to truly appreciate the scale is from the air. So I'm thinking astral projection or remote viewing.
Wonder if there were ever any stones attached to the place? Or post holes discovered?
And can anyone suggest any other prehistoric points of interest in the area or along the way from York? We'll be hitting the Devil's Arrows and Aldborough too I think. When I asked this regarding Wade's Causeway I got some excellent tips.
