End of the road?

George, to echo others, you at least helped save half of a twentieth of one of the most important prehistoric landscapes in England - and you were up against Anglo American who had billions of pounds, a system that's grossly skewed in their favour and very obvious local political support from the outset. They would have deprived you of every bit of it if they could. You did amazingly well, more than most of us will ever do.

Also, 'it's not over 'til it's over'.

Thanks Fitz & Nigel - I only hadn't posted earlier because I couldn't think what to say - and now you've done it for me.

If it is the end George, you've achieved a lot just in giving the bastards a run for their money, gathering so much support and getting Tbro so much media coverage & publicity!!! You only have to look at how difficult it's been to get any media attention for Heritage Action campaigns to see what a superb job you've done.

As you've said elsewhere, it's a sad and disturbing day when it's confirmed that a 10,000 signature petition isn't worth the paper its written on to a cunty council (oops, what an unfortunate typo). In this case sad & disturbing most of all for our heritage and for conservation, but not least for our democracy.

It becomes more & more apparent that 'somehow' the system always seems to uncannily give the greedheads & fatcats what they want - whether through carefully written rules, carefully bent rules, or by blatant cheating & corruption. Not that I'm suggesting there was anything untoward about this decision....
