On the other hand, I think the level of accuracy IS pretty impressive, for either a fluke or a deliberate intent.. If the centre of the top henge was maybe 2 or 3 feet to the side it would correspond to the belt with no discernable error. That's got to be better than most coincidences or it's got to be very clever. The trouble is, which?

It's closer than the diagram in the current edition of Burl's Prehistoric Avebury, which shows the possible 3rd circle. (page xiv)
I reckon said 3rd circle was an attempt to complete a representation of Orion, but the builders realised the scale was a bit out, then decided a nice big henge would be easier...

I'm not questioning the accuracy, but I am curious as to where the other henges fit into the picture, surely they vcannot be ignored or discounted, they are part of the same landscape. I am also interested in the orientation of the monument as compared with the observers view of Orions Belt.

Check out Junctions 33- 34- 35 on the M6 or Hartlepool-Peterlee-Haughton Le Spring, or the Brae-Crawford-Beryl oilfields. Triple Alignments of similar proportions are everywhere it's the Goddess I tell ya.
