Thanks - I've just put two and two together.

Switzerland (cuckoo clocks) and stonehenge.

There's lots of birds listed - a slightly inflated survey - but no animal or plant species. You can be sure that if there'd been newts found they'd have mentioned it. The usual suspects are involved, of course; it's no consolation that E.N. is threatened by an enormous makeover. (Similar situations occur with the restoration of coal opencast land). If there were migratory swans there in the Neolithic then that would add weight to the Deneb cult theory. Can you remember the beginning of the film 'From Russia With Love' ? Not only would a person need a torch to survey for newts, there, but also a punt. If we knew where the starwort was - a waterweed - that could narrow things down. It's a bit like King Canute, it seems.
