This is so difficult isn't it? They're talking about a 'sustainable source of gravel' but surely you can't have such a thing - you dig a great hole in the ground and it doesn't fill back up again. If people need gravel (as we're assured we do) then it's got to come from somewhere. And I'm sure although its obvious to us why we wouldn't want a gravel pit at Ladybridge, the reasons behind why The Powers That Be don't call it a preferred site are entirely different. Yet, it's got to go somewhere allegedly, so why put it where there's already something of interest beyond an arable field? These pits just create a big scar on the landscape (until you fill them with water) and although it's revolting it's the price for drawing from this society and wanting roads and buildings and suchlike. Very complicated stuff I suppose.
