Looks like I'll be starting the next phase of the Thornborough awareness campaign soon - aimed at getting the online petition to 1,000 in time for the Time Flyers prog on November the 4th.

Anyone care to help? This will involve spreading the message to as many people as possible. I'm looking for suggestions like new fora I've not spotted, email lists, and also volunteers to join and post to lists for a week or so to ensure the Thornborough message get maximum coverage. I know you guys have done a lot already but I know from my last spell of fora sitting that I just don't have the bandwidth to babysit anymore forums and simply sending in a single message only impacts on a few people.

One of the areas that I feel we really need to draw on, is the environmentalist lobby, which I have had difficulty penetrating.

Have you tried a posting on Usenet? There are the following groups that may be suitable:

uk.environment
uk.environment.conservation
uk.politics.environment

If you don't have access to Usenet I'll post something for you. Just give me some idea of what you want to say.

Don't know nowt about envromentalist forums, but I'm up for distributing the bus cards etc in Newcastle. I would do so round the museum of antiquities, but I've a feeling they may already know about it?

I would dearly love to project a fuck-off big image and the petition URL onto the side of the Baltic Arts centre.

PPG9 has a lot of 'firepower'. In that region your best candidate will be the Great crested newt - they'll not have been long in hibernation and there may still be one or two around in warmer weeks. The survey time is from the end of March to the first weeks of May.

I'll send a postcard to Rupert - APPAG - he may possibly have some contacts in the Catterick area !

If you send me your blurb, I can send it out to the Stonehenge Peace list, which includes Stonehenge Solstice Gathering organisers and Stonehenge Campaign folk.

Rot to Wrupert. He'll do something.

Found a zigzag on one of the stones - didn't even get off the bus ! Needs a side illuminated photograph on a dark night. A tractor headlight maybe. or a huge sheet of brown paper and some soft wax. ( http://membres.lycos.fr/megalithesanjou/menhir/menhir.html ). The northern face, I think; it's very faint ( http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/post/582 ).

The largest stone in a stone row is the one that's likeliest to be decorated - maybe.

Have you seen this on Megalithic Portal?

Workmen have appeared in the field earmarked for the next phase of the quarry at Thornborough - Ladybridge. Some appear to be archaeologists, whilst there also appears to be quarry trucks going down there.

Given that planning permission has yet to be applied for, a number of locals are suspicious that this may be an attempt to find and destroy any archaeology before the council and English Heritage can have their say.

More info later.

The petition has put on over 100 signatures in five days - a 1000% increase over the last week, equally we have had 2,000 hits on the website in the last five days - a 100% increase. It is still not enough though.

How many new people have you told lately?
