We have decided to hold a Solstice gathering at Thornborough. We now have two "resident" artists who will be gathering ideas for an exhibition we are planning later in the year.

I'll be there, with a number of friends, anyone else who'd like to make it would be more than welcome.

The meet will take place from 4.30 ish on Saturday morning - be there and be round!

Bollox! that should have read Sunday morning.

Sorry :0)

Bugger. Wish I could make it to show support for the cause if nowt else. 'Domestic commitments' unfortunately.... I'd probably get lost in the dark(ish) anyway - never did find Thornborough easy to navigate to!

Have a good one - it'd be nice to get a big turnout - publicity even?

Hi all,

It seems that by inviting people to the Thornborough henges for Solstice on Sunday morning we may be seen to be encouraging breaking of the law and may be help liable for any damage caused by visitors.

Clearly, the good reputation of the Friends of Thornborough must be upheld, and we need to retain an image which will not discourage fellow supporters or invite unnecessary legal costs.

With this in mind, the official line of the Friends of Thornborough will be that we do not encourage anyone to enter the privately owned areas that contain the three henges, and we retract our invitation for Sunday to that respect.

This will be our approach to any future suggestions to visits to the henges.

I and others will still be visiting the henges on Sunday morning but will stay by the roadside, away from any private areas and without obstructing any traffic. We will be happy to see any other friends there. Fortunately safe off-road parking has been provided by the Lower Ure Conservation Trust at the nearby Thornborough Nature Reserve, and I'd encourage any visitors to park here so as to minimise any impact or congestion in the immediate vicinity of the henges, and allow a better enjoyment of the moment for us all.

Given the early hour and the distance some of you may have travelled, I will be providing a small breakfast of croissant's and orange juice. So I get the numbers right, please email me directly to say you will be coming.

Thanks

George
