The National Trust is at times derided for their profit making strategies around some of our most loved sites but this at least gives an insight into the care-taking role they fulfil and, in scenarios like this, what a thankless task that role can be.
But of course it has to be said that since their profit making strategies include things like taking a couple of thousand quid from Big Brother to make a mockery of the Uffington Horse, then copycatting becomes much more likely. If F4J supporters had a clear understanding that all these places were sacrosanct, no ifs and buts, maybe there'd be less of it.
