The National Trust is at times derided for their profit making strategies around some of our most loved sites but this at least gives an insight into the care-taking role they fulfil and, in scenarios like this, what a thankless task that role can be.

But of course it has to be said that since their profit making strategies include things like taking a couple of thousand quid from Big Brother to make a mockery of the Uffington Horse, then copycatting becomes much more likely. If F4J supporters had a clear understanding that all these places were sacrosanct, no ifs and buts, maybe there'd be less of it.

Not to mention allowing cyclists to ride up and down the Avebury bank and ditch for a recent TV drama while (hypocritically) putting signs on each and every gate leading into the Avebury complex prohibiting such cycling.
