Sorry teacher, but ???

The egg-stones all have the same structure and the same source - they are eroded from the hillside. The one with the notch is the one possibly used as a cross base. I have seen another by the Abbots' Kitchen in the Abbey grounds. There is a very large "Tor Burr" in the Midford sandstone on the southern flank of the Tor. The "Living Rock" is on the south-west of the Tor and the base is still in the ground. A larger part has broken off and lies beside it. Those who want to believe in such stuff, claim that it marks the entrance to the labyrinth beneath the Tor and is on the St Michael's Line.

Other stones existed and have been moved or stolen. There is (or was in 1986) one by the north east ascent route immediately after the style. Two others were marked on the 1974 OS map - one above the lynchets to the east of the Tor and the other by Stonedown Lane

So let me try and get this straight :-) There are at least two worked Egg Stones all of which came from the same hillside (the hillside in question being Glastonbury Tor?). The Egg Stone in the Glastonbury Abbey grounds being hauled a mile or so from the Tor. Nat's Egg Stone, now halfway down the Tor, presumably being chucked there from the top of the Tor at some point.

This is all beginning to sound like a dropped stone (no pun intended) for the Circles under churches Thread...
