I agree KK!!!

Didn't know about Bradup but also just read Chris Collyer's fieldnote. Bummer.

All the more for me if I may say, because I never got round to having a look. Double bummer. (Me own fault I spose, I'm only in Leeds & shoud make more effort for local stones...for local people!)

Bradup's a bit of a strange one.
For a start there are discrepancies on the grid ref from different sources, some place it in the ploughed section of the field, others put it a little more to the west. Then there is the pile of half a dozen or so stones close to where the circle was, I've read and been told that they are/aren't the remains of the circle. You should get yourself up there Moth and take a look ;-)

According to Paul Bennett's book there were 12 standing stones recorded in 1929 and prior to that a chap called Collyer (wahay!) mentions 18 stones, there is also a plan of what the circle looked like with a possible alignment with Black Knoll.

What Chris says is true... Bradup's a bit of a strange one to find. I'm not actually sure if I've ever found it myself... found something that could have been, but it was a bit of a jumble.

The 1928 reference is probably Arthur Raistrick. He has many of the Ilkley Moor sites down as appearing quite different to how they appear now. The grouse butts on the southern slopes of the moor have been a constant threat to the archaeology for a long time too and have eaten into a few of the sites.

I used to live in Leeds, down York Rd near Harehills/Chapeltown... near a very pleasant dual carriageway!
