Amesbury

close

Hi all,
I'm new here. Found this site when doing a search for Amesbury, but I do have The Modern Antiquarian, and did see Julian last year at Cambridge Folk Festival - he blew everybody's minds. So I figure I may be allowed to ask a question?
Saturday we are coming down to the area to see Stonehenge, Salisbury, etc. Couldn't get booked in at Salisbury, so we are staying just outside Amesbury. I am trying to find out about the pubs in Amesbury or within walking distance.. Does anybody have any inside knowledge they could share with me? We like to drink real ale from local breweries. Any chance of that? If not I will drive into Salisbury but then I can't have much beer!
Any help appreciated.

Anne

Hi there harelady!

There's a pub linked to from the facilities section of the Amesbury Bowl Barrow section of TMA. It's called 'The Barge Inn', but it's not all that close to Amesbury:

Rhiannon's been there, so she may be able to give you some extra information.

Not sure if it sells real ale, but I've spent a few blurry evenings in the George Hotel in Amesbury! I think there's another pub called the Greyhound (???) too, but only ever went in there once. They are the only pubs I can recall.... Amesbury isn't a big place.

Amesbury (pending on who you are and what yer taste is) isn't the best of places to go drinking dude! Tiz full of nutty scwodies who vote tory and are into making strangers as unwelcome as possible. Better to by a carry ooT and watch the box DUDe. Not a NIce place really.
